Recently I did a little experiment with adsense, when I first published this blog I put adsense adverts in 2 different formats in every post, with the mindset that if there were more adverts to be seen on the page there would be more chance that someone would click on one! After about a week I realized that my post were a bit of a mess with too may AdSense units around them and decided to limit to one block per post, or sometimes none!
The following day my adsense earnings had increased a little but I had had less click through's than the day before! Initially I presumed that you got paid a higher price per click because the ads were more exclusive but after a little research it became blatantly obvious that the keywords that AdSense had used to generate the adverts on the page were paying more! Once again I had assume that adsense adverts payed out between 1 and 50 cent, little did i realize that some of the highest paying adsense adverts can pay over $50 per click!
After a little more research i came across Cyberwyre.org where there is a list of some of the highest paying keywords, the article is from September last year but it gives a great understanding on how to improve what you get paid for click through's! Below is the top 10 from the Cyber Wyre list!

$76.54 - college loan consolidation

$74.78 - auto insurance quotes
$74.23 - school consolidation

I'm guessing that since tis list has been published 1 or 2 publishers may have taken advantage of this and built niche sites so these prices are more than likely out of date. This doesn't mean there there aren't anymore high paying adverts, they are probably popping up every day without anyone realizing. I have identified a small niche keyword after doing some of my own research and ill be writing a post about it later in the week.
