Over the past couple of month I have been using a free download available from CheckYourLinkPopularity.com this is the easiest and most straight forward back-links checker I have found so far. Once you have downloaded the program and opened it you are presented with a list of pre-entered websites as examples and benchmarks to how the program displays the ranks. Below is a screen-shot of the program:

Not only does the program tell you how many links you have, it also tells you which search major engines are recognizing which links. For example I entered John Chow's website into the program to see how may back-links he has to his site and there were the results:
John Chow Dot Com (figures correct at 28th may 2007)
AllTheWeb: 85,000
AltaVista: 125,000
Google/Tiscali: 3,360
MSN/Live: 3,791
Yahoo: 75,367
Total links: 292,518
You can enter more than one url into the program and directly compare your own site to others to see how you are doing. This is a great tool if you are wanting to try and improve your page rank as it allows you to see how you are progressing in your link building:
Quick Note about Page Rank:
It is better to have a few links from sites and blogs with a high page rank than from 100's of sites with a page rank of 0. Not that there is anything wrong with getting linked from PR0 sites as in the future they may potentially become PR6 helping you along the way as you are already back-linked!
So if you want a quick and fast way to check your link popularity this program is easy to use, free and informative!
Download it for free here: Link Popularity Check.
