How to poach an egg, a different way!

Cooking tea last night my girlfriend told me I have a really strange way of poaching eggs so I have decided to share my "strange" full-proof way of poaching eggs here.

What you need:

Microwavable Cling-Film
1 x Mug
! x pan of bolling water
Egg's

First of all cut off a square of cling-film, it must be the microwavable type, else it will melt and stick to your egg when you put it in the water. Put the square over a mug and push a little down to form a small bowl in the top where you wil crack your egg into.

Crack your egg in to the top of the cup in the cling-film bowl. Now this gets a little tricky, you need to gather the corners and make a pouch for the egg. The best way I have found is to gather each corner of the film and pull them up and give it a quick pinch to seal the egg in.

Voila, now you should have an egg parcel like so. Dont nip the cling-film too hard as it will be tricky to get open later and leave a little air in with the egg too. Also you want a little water to get in whilst cooking so just a little pinch to seal the parcel will be enough.

Once your pan of water is boiling slowly drop the egg pouch in, it doesn't matter if the top of the pouch goes under the water, this will help later.

Leave to cook for about 2 to 4 minutes depending on how hot your water is and the size of the eggs. You will know when their done as they will be quite firm although this is more of an art than a science! lol..

Use tongs or a spoon to fish your egg pouches out of the water, if some water has crept into the pouch it will be really easy to remove the poached egg from the film otherwise you may have to do a little peeling. Serve however you like and enjoy!

Hope you enjoyed this post, its not my usual subject but I thought I would have a little break form the norm!

Great article, I am going to try it when I go home during lunch today.

Your girlfriend is right. That is weird! If you are doing this because your eggs fall apart when you are poaching the eggs, try a little vinegar in the water. That helps keep the egg together.

Yeah I tried the vinegar and the kitchen stank! plus i still couldn't get it right! I think it must be a patient thing!LOL

have you tried lining the cling film with a little bit of olive oil? Also - you can tie a knot in it and stop worrying that it will escape from the film, climb out of the pan and eat your dog.
