Whilst browsing the blogosphere yesterday I came across an interesting article about a site called TheNewsRoom, over at Bob Meets World this site provides up to date news which you can use on your website or blog and whats more is that for each person who clicks on the news story YOU get paid! Initially when I first read this my first thought was "the content will be pure advertising" but upon visiting the website and looking to see what was available I was quite surprised to find myself browsing the videos and finding some interesting news story's like the one below. Being a big lover of new technology I just had to include this hybrid vehicle video although I think you may get a few funny looks driving along the main street in one!

 

As you will see if you watch the video, advertising is shown through a pre-roll advert before the main content, which is obviously where TheNewsRoom generates its income. According to the Rate Card for displaying a video on your site you get paid $4 for every 1000 impressions. The marketing doesn't stop there, from what i can understand from the website, others can "MASH" content from you site where you displayed the video. For example, if you wanted to display the above video on your site you would click on the "mash" button in the top right of the player and TheNewsRoom keeps track of who has mashed off who. This has a viral effect, so if only a few people mashed from your site and so on etc you would still end up with a lot of "mashed links" from your site. In the NewsRoom's own words this is how you will get paid:

All you do is click on the Mash button and follow the easy step-by-step process to embed the feed or story on your site. We provide a tracking system and dashboard that records where the feeds and stories have traveled on the Web and how often they are viewed.

 

I couldn't find a concise answer on the website so I'm not sure if you also get paid for impressions from your "down-line", if this is the case then you could quite easily generate a good income from these feeds but I am inclined to say that would be too good to be true.

For the videos to work you must have the latest version of flash payer installed which is the norm for most new technology these days. Registration is very straight forward and you must make sure you register when you "MASH" to make sure you get paid.

I'm still not sure how this whole idea will pan out but will definitely be keeping a close eye on its progress and will publish my earnings from it.
