Will we all get better Alexa rankings? Probably!

So Alexa have finally released a toolbar for Firefox, at last the most popularly used web browser by webmasters can have its own Alexa toolbar just like IE. This is all good and well and there has been allot of talk about this being finally released but it is generally accepted that Alexa is completely flawed in how it ranks sites. This is because it only gathers data from people browsing these sites who have the Alexa toolbar installed meaning that this doesn't give a true representation of a sites popularity. You could have 1000 unique hits per day from users who don't have the toolbar installed, this would not be registered by Alexa and it would assume that you have a very low traffic site. On the other hand you could get 100 unique hits per day with everyone of those users using the Alexa toolbar giving you quite a reasonable ranking, much better than the previous example of a site getting 1000 hits.

Now that the Firefox Alexa toolbar has been released things may change, I expect every webmaster will install the bar as it is very handy for a quick check on site stats. With ore people installing the toolbar I expect everyones stats are going to begin to head north quite slowly as more people download it and browse. The problem is, is that if your stats go north then so will everyones else making Alexa rankings just as useful as it was before. I don't think anyone will benefit from this, what are your thoughts?
