During September I decided to make a point of not blogging for about one month this was for two reasons, firstly i was working on a show called Carnival Messiah based in Leeds for 6 weeks which was going to eat up most of my time and secondly I was curious to find out what my blog would earn with the current content if it was just left alone for a month! So here are my findings which have actually surprised me!
Prior to stopping
Before I "stopped blogging" I was getting on average 340 hits per day on my blog, allot of these were from search engines and the rest I expect were from regular visitors and blog aggregators! From these 340 hits per day I was earning on average $0.65 per day which doesnt sound like much but it all adds up at this time I had around 120 blog post based on 1 post per day so doing a quick calculation each post was earning me 0.0055 cents per day! (wow I'll be a millionaire in no time! LOL)
Not Blogging
During September it was hard not to blog, it was so tempting to do a quick post every now and again just to keep my hand in but I managed to resist for the cause though I did log in and check how my stats were going a couple of times! Finally when I got home and sorted the more important things out i had time to have a good rummage around my stats and earnings to see how things had been going with my "neglected" blog! I was actually surprised that i was still getting around 180 hits per day on average from search engines but even more surprising was that my Click Through Rate for Adsense was up to about 4.5% from 2% for September. I expect the main reason for this was because all of my traffic was coming from organic searches my traffic was more targeted toward the content in-turn making it more likely that visitors would be interested in the adverts and click through! So even though my traffic was down i was still earning around £0.50 per day because my CTR was up! This is a fantastic finding as it means that from this blog i have managed to begin the basis for a true residual income!
Summay
So what have I found? I have amazingly learned allot from "not blogging" singe being able to leave my blog to its own devices in the ether if the Internet has shown that all the work which I have previously put in is still literally paying off now! If i left my blog now and never done another thing I can estimate that it would bring in $170 per year itself (although i do expect this would tail off over the long term!). So whatever searchable and monetized content I add to my blog now it will only ADD to the earning potential of Andy Coates Dot Com. So in theory, if i double my content I will double my residual earnings. With yet another quick calculation i can see how-much content i will need to earn me the milestone target of $100 per day or $36,500 per year, although not impossible I expect it will take along time and allot of work!
So if 120 pages are earning me $170 per year this calculates to $0.70 per page per year, i divide that by 36,500 it leaved me with a rounded 52,000 pages of content needed to earn me 100 per day! Ha ha EASY! Or maybe not! The of course are just very rough theoretical calculations solely for Adsense on what has gone before but gives an interesting insight of content/earnings! I still expect to earn $100 per day in the Long term but with allot less content than 52,000 pages!
So not only can you make money from blogging, you can also make money from not blogging too!
