Have you ever wanted to get into CG?

maya_car_420×254.jpg

Ever since I got my first computer I have always tinkered around with paint programs, 3D software and other such programs playing round and learning how to use them. Being brutally honest I really haven't spent the time to learn these programs to their full potential but have still being able to put out some nice artwork from Photoshop for friends and colleague's. Only a couple of days ago I was browsing the Autodesk website (looking for Autocad tips) and came across Maya one of the industries leading CG design tools, I hadent realised Autodesknow owned Maya and were now offering a special Personal Learning Edition of Maya (Maya PLW) free for download! So since then i have downloaded Maya PLE and started working my way through the tutorials, the whole thing is quite daunting as there are so many menus and command buttons to learn what they do and their location. I spent 20 minutes looking for the location of the "Edit Mesh" command only to discover that the command menu's chance depending what mode you are in, after changing the drop down box menu to Polygons I was back in business!

I have currently competed the first 2 tutorials in the "getting Started guide" which is fantastically well written and am helmet8.jpgslowly getting used to the location of things! What has blown me away is the actual capability's of this program, withing 4 hours of-using this and following the instructions i had gone from complete Maya novice to creating a 3D render of a motorcycle helmet shown here (the free edition stamps the Autodesk logo over your images so you cannot use them for commercial projects). The next step is to do the 2 tutorials again but without the instructions and see how long it takes!

If your even slightly interested in CG i highly recommend you try this free version of Maya.

My Blog and me update!

Just a quick update on me and my blog just in-case anyone is wondering about the recent absence from blogging. Just checking i cant beleive that my last post was on the 26th of November! NOOOOOOOOOOO…how could I have let it slip so much, I used to be really good at keeping the "all important" post frequency at one per day!

Well during that time i have been really busy with a few different "live events" jobs! At then end of November i spent a few days in Manchester at the relatively new Hilton hotel operating sound for the CIPR and Fresh Digital awards, these were awards dinners for people based in the Public Relations industry. The overall winner of the Fresh Digital award went to a company called Propaganda for their particularly funny Viral Video called Rubber 55 (the clue is in the tittle) check it out but you have been warned! LOL.

Following my stint in manchester I was working locally in Newcastle, Leazes park to be precise as part of the production team for Enchanted Parks which was an outdoor kind of arts installation as part of Newcastle/Gateshead winter festival. Worked with some good people on this gig and had some fun, which is what keeps you going when your runnic cables in the cold and wet mud!

Andy currently, (I know your not meant to start sentences with and but I just have!) I'm working at Dance City in Newcastle Operating sound for the fantastic Xmas show Soul II Sole - A B-Boy Story, working with James Froment and not forgetting Amy and Rory we have had fun putting the technical aspects of this together. The show is a semi autobiographical story of The Bad Taste Cru charting their history and showing everyone what AWESOME break-dancing they can do! We have 2 more shows to do tomorrow (Saturday the 15th December) and then a party to attend!

After this show I'm happily off untill after xmas (unless i get a call imbertween which is highly likely!) where I may post more frequent blog updates!

Untill then, have a good one!
