Fastest Road Car? Ariel Atom!

ariel atom side view

Every once in a while a vehicle manufacturer produces a vehicle which is just completely outrageous, super fast and looks crazy. Back in 2000 Ariel motor company released to the world the Ariel Atom, one of the fastest accelerating road going cars which can go to 0 to 60 in 2.7 seconds with a top speed of around 140 mph which is probably fast enough when there is very little separating you and the outside!

Ariel has quite a history which dates back to 1874 when a British engineer called James Startley designed and manufactured a bicycle with a large 48" front spoked wheel and a smaller rear wheel. Sartley called this the Ariel but it became better known as the "Penny Farthing". Later the spoked wheel design headed by Sartley was patented by himself, earning him a milestone place in history. Throughout the years the Ariel Motor Company produced several different powered vehicles with some notably famous motorcycles through the 50's. Currently Ariel are producing a revised version of the Atom with a modifies chassis and a modern Honda K20Z 2.0L 300bhp engine.

To own one of these yourself you will need to part with around £35,000 GBP and have a very secure lockup to store your new toy! For a slightly less expensive but equally fun and great looking summer car check out my post on the Caterham Seven

If you enjoyed this post please feel free to buy me a gingerbread late! mmmm!
