The secret of laughing your way to success!

funny.jpg Yes, the title of this post is no joke, laughing really can improve may aspects of your life, from your well being, health and even your productivity all of which can have a determining factor of your success! Firstly lets look at the health benefits of laughter, did you know when we have a real good laugh we use almost 90% of the muscles in our body. This helps stimulate blood flow getting oxygen to all of our organs. Not only that but for every 60 seconds of laughter we engage in on average this burns off around 10 calories. I deal for anyone wanting to loose weight! Laughing helps exercise your diaphragm which can help toward strengthening this area which is beneficial for anyone with asthma! And yet another benefit through laughing is that it can help lower the blood pressure over the long term which is very helpful for anyone with high blood pressure or diabetes. Just to break this down for anyone who is now saying "doesn't laughing increase your blood pressure?". Well yes this is true but it is the effects after laughing when your muscles relax and your blood flow returns to normal, over the long term this has been scientifically proven to reduce blood pressure.

After having a good laugh your muscles relax which is good for your body, this also helps lower stress levels as when your body relaxes you mind begins to follow too and scientists have proven that people on a whole are more productive when they are not stressed! Also when we laugh, chemicals called endorphins are released into our body which helps combat stress hormones. Stress hormones can constrict blood vessels and lower the immune system making you more susceptible to bugs or virus's. Endorphins do exactly the opposite they can help reduce the feeling of pain and help with the balance of your emotions, effectively keeping out bodies in balance.

Laughing makes you feel good afterwards, this is because as mentioned above when you laugh you use up to 90% of the muscles in your body. Not only this but you also intake more oxygen and because your muscles are already dilated the oxygen runs through your muscles and body much quicker than normal making you feel good afterwards.
A random fact taken from a scientific study is that we used to laugh 20 minutes out of every day in the 1950’s. Now we laugh for 6 minutes out of every day. I cant say for certain what has changed but as the pace of life moves quicker maybe we have less time to laugh than we used too?!

Laughing Without reason

There are may pages regarding laughing without reason on the Internet, just do a quick Google search and you'll see what i mean. Laughing without reason sounds strange and i guess it is when you relate it to what is culturally acceptable. If you just begin to laugh in the street, workplace or anywhere in public people will look at you strangely, most likely keep their distance from you and possibly call the men in white coats to take you away! Laughing without reason is ultimately a chemical reaction which over the years we have trained our bodies to do, "if you laugh you will find more things funny". Once again that last phrase probably sounds quite strange as surely don't we laugh after we have found something funny?!? Here is how it works, generally we laugh because we find something fun, this in turn causes a physical reaction to take place which makes us use certain groups of muscles and expel air from our lungs and generally move our shoulders up and down. Now if we turn this on its head and make ourselves laugh, the act of using the same muscles causes our brain to release a little of the appropriate chemicals and in turn cause us to laugh a little more. This causes a cycle which eventually turns int REAL laughter. This is very much like when you see someone laugh but you don't know why they are laughing, the visual and audible cue triggers you to laugh which in turn usually makes the other person laugh more.

TRY IT!

There are no hard and fast rules, just remember the benefits of laughing, innevitably it will improve you productivity and make working on whatever you do more fun. Having fun and being more productive at the same time cant be bad at all! Make time to laugh, have more fun with your colleagues and friends and feel the benefits throughout! Just remember next time your feeling stressed and are about to shout out of your car window at someone who has just cut you up, have a little laugh and feel your stress levels quickly go down again!

And one last thing

Randomly laughing in public will most likely make you look a bit mad! Do it only where appropriate!

Newcastle to Barcelona

So just as i was getting back into the swing of blogging at the start of this month I was offered some work away again which left little or no time for blogging due to the schedule! So keeping in the spirit of blogging, here is a rundown of the mammoth drive to Barcelona!

Newcastle:

I left Newcastle on Thursday morning and headed south to Portsmouth with a van full of gear, this was pretty un-eventful until I just passed Watford where my phone, which was also my Sat Nav needed charging. I pulled over the side of the rode and plugged my phone into the charger and the other end in to the cigarette power point only to find out that the socket in the van didn't work! This was the moment I realized how much I had begun to take may Sat nav for granted! Undeterred I reverted to the old fashioned way, followed the signs and eventually got to the ferry port! Being a stranger to Portsmouth ferry terminal i wasn't sure where to go but after about 30 minutes i had checked through customs etc and was in the line waiting to board the ferry, this was the rainy view from the van!

Home For the next 36 hours!

Eventually I was called to drive the van onto the ferry (Pride Of Bilbao) and finally found my cabin, I had every intention of taking a look around the boat but I must have been tired from all the driving that i just fell asleep after lying in the bed for a few minutes! The following day (After breakfast!) I was greeted with great weather once I ventured on deck which made a nice change from the not so sunny weather in England.

Calm as a duck pond!

Later on in the drivers lounge where all the freight drivers can relax I got talking to a few other drivers and after asking what was the best way to get to Barcelona from Bilbao on of them said i could follow him as he was going there. The guy i was due to follow was called David George and I owe a great deal of gratitude in him helping me across Spain. The following day I was up at 5.30 am and went down for breakfast, not-long after breakfast we got the call for drivers to go to their vehicles ready to disembark, coincidently when we got there Dave was parked directly behind me on the car deck! After a little waiting the boat docked and we drove off and got through customs with little hassle apart form a customs guy asking for a slip of paper which i wasn't given, eventually he just shrugged and waved me through! After leaving the port we were finally on our way climbing the hills outside of Bilbao ready to head across northern Spain. After about an hours driving we were heading toward the national highway with some pretty nice views around us! What i did find quite entertaining was every now and again there were MASSIVE cutout's of bulls mounted high up on the hills, heres a few i took pictures of!

AND another!!!!

After a couple of fuel and coffee stops we pulled in at a cafe near Zaragoza which was pretty much half way on our journey to Barcelona. All the food was traditional Spanish and when we came to get served Dave asked me if i liked tripe, not being one to shy away from something new i said I'm not sure but ill give it a go. So Dave ordered lunch and said he would tell me what was in it after I'd finished eating it! I wasn't quite sure what to think when the waiter brought the plate to our table as shown below in the pic!

Mmmmmmmmm ?!?!?!

I started eating and the flavor was quite nice but i couldn't get away with the texture, it was a bit too fatty and rubbery! Eventually i managed to eat about half and had to give up as the texture just didn't suit my pallet! Then came the reveal on what i had just been eating, get ready for it…… Tripe (Cows stomach which I knew about), pigs ears and pigs trotters!! It was an interesting meal which I'm glad i tried but wouldn't be ordering it again! I cant remember the name of the dish but apparently it is a traditional Spanish dish, if anyone reading this knows the name please let me know!

After lunch we st off dringing again, stopping along the way for a drink so as not to tire of the driving, the were quite a few fuel stations along the way, some which appeared to be miles from anywhere!!

Welcome to nowhere!

Finally, about 18.00 we arrived in Barcelona, Dave was going to the port and i was headed to the Hilton Diagonal which was pretty much in the center of Barcelona. I found the hotel straight away but ran into a problem with parking, it seemed to be that there were lots of underground car-parks but nowhere big enough to fit a large 3.5 ton van! Eventually after driving around for 2 hours I found a place to park the van and taxied back to the hotel. A word of advice to anyone driving to Barcelona in anything bigger than a car is organize parking before you get there! The following few days were spent setting up and operating the conference with my colleagues who had the pleasure of flying from Newcastle to Barcelona, heres a couple of pis of some of what we were actually setting up.

Once the conference was all over (3 days later) everything was packed down put back in the van and I repeated the exact same trip in reverse! It was a great experience driving across the Spain but next time I've already reserved my seat on the plane!

Just keep tinkering away, It all adds up!

During the past week I have been spending most of my time painting, filling, sanding and tiling different rooms in my new house, the whole process has been a long one but at last the end appears to be insight. What surprised me about doing certain jobs was how you kind of loose track of time and your surroundings when you begin to do repetitive tasks such as tiling an entire bathroom! With the guidance of my girlfriends father we began tiling the bathroom about 5 days ago and for the past 2 days I have been on my own, slowly putting each tile on one by one, measuring, cutting and leveling to make sure everything is perfectly aligned. In the beginning the whole task seemed mammoth as then we had about 350 tiles waiting to be stuck perfectly straight our wonky walls! Now the tiling is probably around 2/3rds complete and only yesterday I took a step back and realized how much had been done, it was a very satisfying feeling after I had counted nearly 200 tiles stuck perfectly (well most of them) aligned with each other on the walls!

ts amazing how things add up when you are not looking over time which got me thinking about my kontera earnings. On average Kontera brings in about $0.12 per day to this website and I was thinking about ditching it altogether as I am disappointed by its performance. But thinking about the long term and how quickly things add up when your not constantly looking every day ( I was terrible for that at one point!) I have decided to leave Kontera ticking away in the background, If it generates $40 in a year at-least it will contribute to the bigger picture alongside my AdSense earnings, Pay Per Post Earnings, Soon to be Text Link Ads earnings, Money4Banners Earnings, EurolotteryWinner earnings (separate form this blog) Amazon Earnings plus other smaller affiliate deals. Separately they don't seem to add up to very much but I'm looking forward to my 12 month review when I can look back at the BIGGER PICTURE and see how each and every one of these pieces adds up!If oyur a fellow blogger and you feel like your getting nowhere with your blog and blog earnings check out my post The importance of persistence in blogging success.

P.s
I'll put some pictures up of my shiney new bathroom once i have all the pieces in place! ;-)
